PICTURE GALLERY
I have never been precious about my work, and rarely take photos of it,
However after a sort through the drawers I have found one or two.
So to start with here are a couple of pictures of
designs for magazines.
The mags are from the 80's.
This sort of work is not commissioned by the magazine,
but by the PR agent of a yarn spinning company.
The objective being to promote the company's yarn.
It is the yarn company who pays the designer.
These are some photos of a few of my designs for
pattern leaflets.
Once again they are from the 80's and early 90's.
When working in the pattern leaflet market, the most interesting and important consideration for a designer
is the translation of the customer brief.
Every yarn company, depending on the quality and type of yarns produced, targets
a specific customer group.
Robin Wools, for example, targets the family.
Robin produces inexpensive mid-range yarns,
and expect their designs to appeal to a busy Mum,
who needs straight-forward, quick to knit, easy care garments.
Whereas a company like Avocet, produces luxurious and expensive fancy yarns, many imported from Italy.
Their target customer is the 25 to 35 year old fashionable, career girl.
In this case the designer is required to produce innovative, and stylish fashion garments.
